Friday the 13th.... I get my 3 hours of personal time during the day today... I think I am going to drive to 1960 and go to Babies R Us (cue heavenly music) and Half Price Books (cue Metallica) and I don't know.... Salvation Army, maybe? Nice.

On the college issue that was discussed last night, here are some of my comments.
I am in NO WAY anti-college. I know it helps thousands of people every year. The fact is, if you have a passion for or want to do certain things (doctor, engineer, physics, science) you NEED a higher education and training than what high school provides. In this regard, college is very useful and purposeful to help you pursue your passions or interest. However, the wide American mentality that ALL children should go to college is bunk. It isn’t needed for many things, and what about God??? Does He have a higher plan? Does He want you to focus on something else, and then He’ll bless you for obeying Him?

Like Jess said, if you have a passion for something, DO IT. Also like Jess said, we were 17 getting out of high school and just had big passions for youth ministry. I seriously sought the Lord about going to college when I was getting out of high school and He spoke to my heart to stay in ministry and obey Him, and He’ll take care of me, so that’s what I did. No college. I have never regretted it!! I did various things for work, including building cabinets and framing houses, but I was able to give a lot of time to ministry.
A couple years out high school, I wanted to get a more professional job and thought I’d like Human Resources. I got an entry level job. Once in HR, I decided and wanted to do Benefits, then later I wanted to focus on retirement benefits. I just followed what my heart and mind was interested in. It was a six year process of learning and moving up in TX and IL. Then, the experience allowed me to land the job here at Boeing that REQUIRED a Bachelors degree, making $10 more per hour than at my previous company where I got the experience. I just trusted God along the way, followed my interest, and worked hard. The working hard part is very important.
All this to say life isn’t a “one size fits all” and neither is God’s plan, nor everyone’s passions. I was able to pursue youth ministry, and work my way to where I am now in the professional arena. As far as I know, ALL of my co-workers have Bachelors or Masters degrees, I don’t and make the same salary and perform in my job as well, and in many cases better. God has given me much favor because I obeyed him. For many, obeying Him is going to college, for many it isn’t.
out of high school I was going to college. I had registered for classes and everything. I was about 3 weeks from leaving, and someone asked me to stay. So I did. It has had it's good moments and bad. But I don't think I was spiritually ready to go, so I'm glad I stayed. But now, I think I need to, before it has been too long to remember anything from high school!
i think it's awesome that you've taken some time after highschool to think about what's important, etc. that's my biggest regret--that i went straight into college without true direction, and i didn't really have a handle on the value of my opportunity.
i also had no idea what my options were.
ok, so I'm going to college, now I just have to decide where I want to go...and when, i could move in january to my parents and go to a community college up there. Or I could work until next fall and LEAVE for college then

Yeah, the whole college thing...I was a professional college student for, well, let’s just say longer than your average student. Good times (mostly!). I wouldn’t trade the experience, but I would do some things differently. You’ve got to go with what God tells you to do, but just some suggestions....
1) Unless I had a scholarship or grants somewhere, I would’ve attended a community college first to get the basics out of the way. There are a lot of basic classes you have to take that are similar. Classes tend to be smaller and cost way less. It would’ve saved me a lot of time and money. Specifically, money.
2) I would have applied for all the scholarships and grants available. The less time you have to work, the more time you will have for study. And ministry.
3) I would have gone to a Christian college. I was constantly challenged for my beliefs – usually by the professors. I visited LeTourneau Christian College in Longview after I graduated and realized how much I missed by going to a secular school. Everything was brought into a Biblical perspective, they had required Bible courses and prayed before class. Not that everything was perfect or that folks never did anything wrong, just that the basics were there – it was really refreshing to me.
Well, OK, there are more things I would’ve done differently, but these are the ones that apply in this situation. And again – it all depends on where God wants you to be. You can be going to the best Christian college in the world and be out of God’s will. These are just suggestions to consider.

I have a friend who is due with her 4th boy, she is going to do a home birth with the same midwife that I had.. her other 3 were in the hospital.. she's looking forward to it, she wants me to be with her during labor too, I'll be there as much as possible with tending to Keith.. so that's exciting, she's due end of November.
OH, MamaPC, nevermind, Josh just came in the room & read what I wrote & explained.. that they are friends of John's side of the family

Brittany is John's sister's oldest daughter - Brittany and Lindsey are the same age and grew up together as little girls... Susie (John's sister) and Barty (her husband) got married 2 weeks before me and Papa - and we had our girls within months of each other...
The four little girls were cute together during their pre-school years - 4 cousins - Lindsey, Brittany, Bethany and Hannah...
Anyway, Britt married Joe - who was part of a dance ministry - Joe knows Nate and Leah, Jenna and Jeff Lewis (whose wife was tragically killed last Tues)
Therefore, Brittany and Joe flew in yesterday and will be here til Tues afternoon.

college was the "decade" plan for me. glad I finished, and grateful for so many helping me with my boys while I worked and took classes.
I agree with su8 that the experience taught me more than any classes. Now I have Joshua school classes, too.
it would be good if young people in college would take a Joshua classes to balance their training.

i'm very sorry to hear about the lady who died.
on college, the biggest thing i gained was the passion for missions. i was there for five years--got no degree ( long story ), incurred incredible debt, but i still think it was worth it because of the missions experience/training i got. =)
although, i will say that one thing i would definitely do differently---is to trust God to provide the money--through jobs, or scholarships, or whatever--instead of jumping into thousands and thousands of dollars in debt.

Nah, not nosey. =)
I got my degree in Criminal Justice. (cue Law & Order sound). Sounds bigger than it is. I went through a lot of majors before I settled on CJ. But my heart was to help people, not arrest them. Ended up working with adults & children with mental retardation and/or autism.
Mark didn’t go to Sam. Eva Walsh introduced us at a “Praise Band” concert (that’ll date me!). Actually, I should say “set us up”! =) I had been at CTK for about 2 years and he had grown up at CTK, but had never seen each other. It’s a long, but really fun story.
Clammy – amen to that! I was able to work my way through all but the last 2 semesters of college, so debt was very minimal. (I was SO ready to graduate and I had run out of money). The college had a pay as you go plan – they would let you pay each semester in installments, and I worked at least 2 jobs all through school. By the time I realized I could qualify for grants, they told me I made too much money!
Beth – amen to that too! Hadn’t thought of taking Joshua classes while you’re in college. It really would be great for balance! It also made me think about missionary/discipleship training schools like YWAM, Teen Mania, etc. It’s more of a “drop everything and go” thing, but would be great for someone just out of high school or college. Anyone go to those anymore?

He liked it, he would reach for the spoon & "help" us get it in, we had to hold it near the front so he wouldn't gag himself, he even opened his mouth as it came a couple times... & of course 2/3 swallowed & 1/3 on the bib : D
He ate most of it too.
We set up the tripod & videoed it while we both took turns feeding him, he smiled quite a lot, great video for memories!!

Speaking of college - I went 6 weeks when I was 18 years old, then dropped out for almost TWENTY years!
Stayed home and raised the kids, then when I was approx 35 years old and they were all in junior high or older, went back to college when I knew what plan I should pursue...
There are still people who go to YWAM and Teen Mania for years, Lisa. Our niece Bethany is now on the worship team that leads for Teen Mania's Acquire the Fire.
I have friends who spent several years in Hawaii as adults with children seeking to serve by training with YWAM (Youth with a Mission). (He now works with a major oil company) We have another friend who serves on the Mercy Ships (another YWAM arm)...
Each person has to listen closely to God and follow as best they can... and if they cannot hear, at least step out in trust and faith that if it's something they aren't supposed to do, He'll change the path...
The walking out and stumbling and getting up again is part of the growth process. Strengthens and trains...
Well, I'm babbling... and need to get some zzz's before Sunday morning.

fall is officially here. and by fall, i mean the season in east texas when cats and dogs fall from the sky, and the wind causes other things to fall from over our heads.
i jest of course. my prayers are with those who are danger. but i just can't help but love the rain storms. =)
oh...i just heard we have our own tornado warning now. they think cut-n-shoot is a funny name for a town. hehe
and i'm about to leave for work.
i have to say though, that i would prefer to be in the courthouse during a true storm....just wish i could take my hubby with me. =)
