I had a good day. And I laughed hard every time I read that blog. I
still think it's funny. And a very interesting fact that kidneys
cannot, in fact, explode. But if you operated on someone, and put an
incendiary device inside their kidneys, and you had the detonator...
it could still be a very real risk.
So don't be too cocky, Pam.
Today is Tuesday... that = getting ready for Radrev day around
here... except I'm thinking about hitting Walmart. My Walmart is
beginning to grow on me, now that I figured out where most of the
stuff is.
Toby is now saying No No back to me ... funny stuff.

I just read Saint... good stuff. There is shooting and whatnot, but no horror stuff.
Disclaimer, however &%^^% Ted Dekker sneaks up on you again, not saying it's part of a *^&* TRILOGY and the next book is 6 months away or something.
Sheesh.

actually...

if you were to put an incendiary device in someone's kidneys, then they would burn...not explode.

Incendiary devices cause fires and the like. i.e. Napalm...

Nate said...

and napalm can have explosive characteristics...but for the most part...it's gasoline jello, it just burns

Nate said...

unless placed in a container with enough force to create pressurization upon ignition, which then causes a detonation...and explosion...

jess said...

You know it's possible, Tron. Don't live in denial.

jess said...

in·cen·di·ar·y (n-snd-r)
adj.
1.
a. Causing or capable of causing fire.
b. Of or containing chemicals that produce intensely hot fire when exploded: an incendiary bomb.
c. Of or involving arson.
2. Tending to inflame; inflammatory: an incendiary speech.

Nate said...

see...my point...napalm...it's an incendiary. It causes intensly hot fire when exploded...like most gasoline jello's will

Nate said...

so just pump those kidneys full of napalm...and see what happens!

jess said...

You're telling me, if a fire started in your kidney, you don't think it would explode?

jess said...

I'd keep a close eye on your kidneys with that kinda naivete....

Nate said...

please...I'm young...I don't think I have anything to worry about.

Besides, napalm hasn't been through texas since the nineties...when they made a big stink about it

have you ever seen gunpowder burn when not enclosed?

it just burns...hot

but when enclosed, say in a bullet or cannon, the pressure created from the gasses released by the burning gunpowder creates pressure to shoot the bullet out of the gun...an explosion! Like in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory...when Hans or whatever his name is gets stuck in the choclate sucker thingy...

random!

Well, what a great moment to announce that I put some new pictures on my blog! : D

We're hoping to put a video of Keith on it pretty soon.

I hardly have a chance to get on here, so it'll have to be now, ha ha.

Kidneys.. uh, I'm glad that ours are all working great!

Nate said...

here's kinda a weird question

now, I'm not saying anyone's kids look weird...

but when you were a soon-to-be parent,
were you afraid they would come out weird looking?

I've thought about that...

this is not directed towards anyone in particular...just asking

jess said...

Shannon
Those are GREAT! They just make me smile.

Man, my kidneys are feeling kinda hot...

Nate said...

had any jello recently?

jess said...

I've thought OTHER people's kids might come out weird. But I always figured mine would be remarkably attractive.

Why does ONLY green jello feel like the brain? What's so special about green jello only?

lisa said...

Ok, these are way too funny not to share...

The following came from an anonymous, now-smarter, Mother in Austin, Texas:

Things I've learned from my Boys (honest and not kidding):

1) A king size waterbed holds enough water to fill a 2000 sq. ft. house 4 inches deep.

2) If you spray hair spray on dust bunnies and run over them with roller blades, they can ignite.

3) A 3-year old Boy's voice is louder than 200 adults in a crowded restaurant.

Josh said...

Hmm, interesting.

Tron- I’ve always figured my kids would look adorably beautiful, but others I’ve wondered about. Like, not naming any names, but someone who runs a daily blog that some of us get on. Still, no names or anything.

Josh said...

Can you imagine being the guy with one hand in a bowl of green jello and the other hand in a human brain going, “Hmm, yes green jello does feel most like the human brain, hmm.”

Josh said...

Ok, just kidding about the kid thing. I knew the Clark kids would be good lookers, and they are! All the Clark kids a very cute.

4) If you hook a dog leash over a ceiling fan, the motor is not strong enough to rotate a 42-pound boy wearing Batman underwear and a Superman cape. It is strong enough, however, if tied to a paint can, to spread paint on all four walls of a 20x20 ft. room.

5) Brake fluid mixed with Clorox makes smoke and lots of it.

6) Play dough and microwave should not be used in the same sentence.

7) No matter how much Jell-O you put in a swimming pool, you still can't walk on water.

8)Pool filters do not like Jell-O.

I went to WalMart last night with the older two boys to get an oil change and pick up a few things.

After 2 hours, I went to p/u the truck and they told me they didn't change the oil b/c they couldn't get the hood open. (It's an old, tired truck -- you have to pull the wire under the dash and hit the hood while muttering under your breath)

They could've paged me, right? So now I've got to return later. Not with 2 boys this time, hopefully. Or 3.

But the oil change will be free!! Woohoo!

Nate had a cone head when he was born. Looked like those folks on old Sat Night Live shows. The books said (and the dr reassured us) that it wasn't permanant. But I was somewhat concerned. It was gone in a day or so. But conehead or not -- he was beautiful to us!

He's so handsome now!! Just got new school pics -- I wish I could fast forward to when he was grown just to see what he's doing and what he looks like. It's fun to imagine...

Great, I was just talking to am employee about his pension and retirement plans, and I had to explain his “worse case scenario,” based on an interest rate that will be published in November. While talking worse case scenario, I’m trying to push away images of exploding kidneys.

Thank you Jess and Tron!

Josh said...

The conversation went something like, “So Bob (not real name), the worse case scenario is if the GATT rate published on November 8th is higher than 4.46%, you could lose an additional 5.3% on your monthly pension if you retire in 2007 instead of 2006. Oh Bob, speaking of worse case scenarios, have you ever thought about your kidneys exploding? I mean, just imagine you’re walking down Main St. minding your own when KABLAM!! your kidneys explode. . . what are you gonna do now, Bob? . . . “

Bob was very worried about this scenario.

Josh said...

Yo K T! How's your kidneys?

jess said...

'It's not a high risk, Bob. Someone would have to plant an incendiary/ explosive device inside your kidney first. And that's unlikely, unless you sleep a lot, or black out, or are unable to account for parts of your day...."

Josh said...

“Have you had abdominal surgery recently, Bob? Oh, you have recently, well you should be very concerned then, Bob.”

Josh said...

“Do you feel a burning sensation in your back, just below your ribs, Bob?”

the question about ugly kids

...

when i was 15 days overdue with Lindsey, i had a dream where I had had the baby...and the nurse was leading me through the nursery to see my newborn...

I walked after her, and we entered a little room...and there before my eyes, was a little cute baby girl all dressed in pink, with beautiful skin and great big eyes... I reached down..and the nurse grabbed my hand and said.."no dear, that's not your baby.... come this way..."

so, we went into the next room, and there he was... the most beautiful boy baby... dressed in blue...with blonde hair... and again, the nurse snapped "No, dear, that's not your baby..." and led me into the next room

As I neared MY baby's incubator, I noticed the ugliest baby I'd ever seen, with red skin and rusty marks all over her face and with hair sticking up all over her head... The nurse said "That's YOUR baby..." and I woke up in a start from the horror of it all....

jess said...

When I was pregnant with the twins, I dreamed I had a litter of puppies.

Mama PC said...

then, when LindsEy was born 20 days past the due date, she had stork marks all over her forehead, a huge strawberry on the back of her head, and the humongous birthmark on her right shoulder that she wears with pride to this day. (have you seen it?)

add to that the fact that she had NO baby toenails

and one of her ears was folded in on itself!!! the top of it was folded!!! like it had been squashed or something for the past few months and needed time out in the air to finally pop into place!

i looked at her carefully, and of course loved her... but i was a little unsure what to think of all of her polka dots, marks, naked baby toes and bended ear...

:-)

Mama PC said...

when Hannah was born, it went like this...

it was a planned c-section... cause back then, once a c-section, always a c-section...

they got me into the OR, prepped me, anesthesia started by doing a spinal block... my legs and abdomen were numb... and the nurses were scrubbing my belly... John was brought in to stand at my head... and THE DOCTOR NEVER SHOWED UP!!! it was a long while, and i saw a lot of nervous people twiddling their glov-ed thumbs... saying "where is he? where is he?" finally he showed...

and the sounds and scenes of a typical OR ensued... but, when they tugged the baby out of my body cavity... and held her up for all to see, she didn't cry... at all...

nothing...

John's eyes were big... i was watching him like a hawk, cause i couldn't see anything (they always put a sterile field guard or shield up between the mama and the surgical site) but his eyes...

In short moments, they whisked the baby over to me to touch with my left hand, which was attached to a board to keep iv's and monitors intact... and i saw how beautiful she was, but so quiet and still...

then, everything went dark for me, cause i think they gave me some meds to keep me from worrying...

later, when i woke up, john told me she was fine...and looked good...

but, when the pediatrician walked into our room that night... he said to us...

"Well, her Apgar tests at birth were very low, and didn't improve much several moments later, but she's looking much better now..." (and here's the clincher statement)

then he said, with a serious but professional expression...

"but, we're going to treat her as if she is normal..."

CAN YOU BELIEVE A DOCTOR WOULD SAY THIS TO A YOUNG COUPLE ABOUT THEIR NEWBORN???

Mama PC said...

Hannah got too much of the spinal medication that was used to numb me for the surgery cause the dumb doctor was LATE!

but, we treat her as if she's normal...

Mama PC said...

oh, and btw, hannah had toenails AND no spots... AND her ears were perfectly formed...

:-)

Mama PC said...

how was rad rev tonight?

Mama PC said...

km! that might be part of the cause of your past bouts with anemia! the kidneys start the process by which it produces red blood cells!!! if you only have one kidney, and have other causes of blood loss, and dont' eat properly or follow dr's orders in regard to proper care of the other kidney, you'll have trouble!!!

glad you're doing better now...

but many people live long lives with only one kitney

that's interesting about the two hearts.... must've been a twin that never separated at a very early stage in meiosis (if that's the proper stage... anyway, one of the stages of division during early life)

hey! i've actually seen a uterus shaped LIKE A HEART!!! divided-like... the docs that showed it to me in the L&D Operating Room (i was observing as a student nurse) said it was very rare, but a wonderful anomoly... the heart-shaped womb carried the baby...
