Guys day

the topic of the day: books

My dad used to go to the library and come home with stacks of
books.... a half dozen glossy ones with things like airplanes and
eagles and American flags... Tom Clancy-esque, and a couple comics...
maybe Calvin and Hobbes, Dilbert, Far Side, and then some
randomness... fascinating tomes like How to Build a Geodesic Dome and
Guns of World War II, or How to make toys out of Trash.... and he
would read them in his big chair while noisily crunching apples.
I get 15 or 20 novels, usually with pioneer looking women and various
scenes in the background... or neon chick-lit with cartoonish women
and cups of coffee and such.
Which I read curled up somewhere with various snacks....

Question- what do you guys read? Where? Do you like funny stuff or
blow-ups and gunfights?? Do you even READ love scenes? My MOG carries
around imposing books of sermons and tries to read little clips of
Finney and such to me, but I run away. And he reads magazines about
studios and musical equipment. I will be right at the part where she
is about to tell the Tory soldier that she is a patriot in disguise,
in a rainstorm after she was shot, and Richy will pipe up- "Hey, you
won't believe this. I have been compressing my mix with the Presonus
23468 and all this time I could have just modulated the equalizer!
Silly me!" or something....

This afternoon I will be going to beaumont with the fam as Richy is
preaching at a youth group there. So if I have an internet connection
in the morning, I will post a blog. Otherwise, it will be later
tomorrow.

I got it. . . good one.

I will have to disagree with you that books are for people with nothing better to do.

I like to read, but not fiction. Someone bought me a fiction book for Christmas in 2003, while we lived in IL. I read it in a couple days, on our drive to and from Cincinnati, OH to visit Shannon’s relatives. It was the first fiction book I’d read in 8 years, since high school. It just reminded me that I don’t like fiction books.

I like good Christian teaching books. A lot of the same stuff Richy likes. I’m currently finishing Shepherding a Child’s Heart, which is a great teaching book about communication and helping your children see their need for Christ and to embrace him. Before that I read Bringing Up Boys by Dobson, which wasn’t what I was expecting. . . a bit of a disappointment. Before my parental stage, I had read an AW Tozer book and I’m planning to probably read some more Tozer after Shepherding.

I like good apologetics, teaching, thinking, understanding the fullness of God books.

I do like to do many other things, so it takes me a while to read a book. I’m not a “curl up with a book” kinda guy. I’ll read a chapter of two at a time, as I can. A lot of Sundays afternoons I’ll take an hour and read.

Here's something Big Daddy will like.

I talked to an employee yesterday that retired April 1st and asked him how retirement is going. He said great and that he went deep sea fishing up here around Vancouver and caught an 83 lb halibut!!

I said, "Man, that's a lot of halibut!" I had no idea halibut got that big. We eat halibut almost weekly, have a big case of Alaskan halibut in the freezer.

I also like war history type stuff. If I’m in a Barnes & Noble, you’ll find me flipping through a WWII book that has lots of pics. I’ve never purchased any books like this because I don’t really want to spend too much time on it, but it’s intriguing to me to look at.

Jess...you quoted me as saying..."Hey, you
won't believe this. I have been compressing my mix with the Presonus
23468 and all this time I could have just modulated the equalizer! "
THAT DOESN'T MAKE ANY SENSE YOU FOOL!
First of all, I don't have a Presounus 23468, second... they don't even make one. Sheeesh. Plus, I wouldn't compress my mix with any outboard gear. I use all plugin's from Universal Audio. AND... you dont "modulate" and equalizer? What.. like the EQ is going to change KEYS? " It's EQ not a freakin' keyboard. Thought I'd clear that up.....

jess said...

Oh and books are good if they edify me in some way that benifits the kingdom... like how to make good smoothies!

jess said...

permission to laugh

Josh said...

Yeah Jess, sheesh! DUHHHH!!

like the EQ is going to change KEYS! HELLOOOOOO!!

you dont "modulate" and equalizer! COME ON!!!

I Jess' defense, she did NOT break rules, she asked permission to laugh.

Who DID break rules was Beth, no permission asked to speak.

i do have to say that Victoria is not all that it's cracked up to be....

but, the Butchart Gardens are very nice in deed. The weather stayed PERFECT the whole time we visited the gardens, and then it misted while we did some indoor sightseeing... so, things are working out well...

Looking forward to getting to our bed n breakfast in Seattle tomorrow...

(((Anyone hear from Jeremiah, tell him to get home and get some zzz's tonight........ so he can be strong for work tomorrow (he was sick Tues and Wed and missed work!))))

Also, tell him to get home and help Hannah wash all those towels I hear they used to clean up the spew that hit the amp, dresser, drums, carpet, etc in his room early Tues a.m. I DON'T want to smell THAT smell when I get in on Sat evening!

oh, i just read an email - MY SISTERS just signed me up for a TRIP TO CANCUN!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm not ready for another trip....financially or emotionally....

I want to be back home!!!

I suppose by the time I get to the date to leave, and after I get home from there, I'll be glad I went. I told them I couldn't afford to go....

My sisters are my friends, and we have never done anything like this before.

I'm gonna seriously have to scrimp and scratch to make ends meet.... what with galavanting all over the WORLD!!!

Don't salivate, Kat... Just dream and remember...

One day we'll go to THAILAND together, right??? right???

The Lord knows each one...and what we need....

Lord, may we put our trust in You more each day.... and trust that you have our best interest at heart!

loquacity. I like that. Hmmm. looks like low-quality or maybe when a ducks ability to quack is low,

Or it could be close proximity to a city named loqua.

From the context I think I can figure it out, but I am having much more fun thinking it means something else.

Could be a disease where your tongue swells up, sort of like naytron and all you can say is loquac, loquac, loquac.

Or maybe it is a cough syrup. That they have to make in bubble-gum flavor because it tastes so awful.

Ideas?
Comments?

Kat,
What an interesting life,

Read Alvin Toffler and all of the others, me too most before junior high school. Allen Ginsburg at 10.

Took french 9-12 grade, I took it 7-11th
Learned Chinese 28-30
I learned German 20-22
Learned Thai 31-35
I learned Spanish 31-33

Lost some of it in the great war between the brain and hallucinogens,

Me too.

Learned Html
Still got some of that. Hallucinogens over, life better. I can remember the important things still like where is my bed? is that my child? Who are my closest relatives?

BethC said...

question:
how many people actually ever use the preview button?
in reference to the concept of think before I speak....

Georgia said...

How is it from the elasticity? What do these words have in common? icity is too common of a suffix to be the commonality.

jess said...

I use the preview button if I'm trying html.

I go throuh reading phases
right now it's science and math
a few months ago it was finances and real estate (which I still return to often, like my constant companion book "TX Real Estate Law")
I can relate to joshs comments about fiction, but I do like some historical fiction
