this topic has been discussed, I am sure. Probably hashed over by
comedians and so forth. Still, it interests me and this is MY blog.
So there you go.
today, as I was driving home on 336, I saw a ladies high heel on the
side of the road. Why? Tell me this. Have you ever thrown a shoe out
the window? Because if this is some kind of rite of passage, nobody
told me. I have never done it...
Now, one time I came close. As we were hurtling down the freeway in
the radiantmobile, I was busy tormenting Hannah (which passes the
hours nicely). Han is tougher than me, but she is nice. Every now and
then she would start to hurt me and as soon as I started whimpering,
she'd let up. Ha. Anyhoo, one of the torments I considered was
throwing Han's flipflop out the window into the wild blue yonder. But
I decided that was across the line over into Meanland.
But here's the deal. There are always shoes on the shoulder. Usually
one male tennis shoe type shoe. On the feeder past 1960, there has
been a pair of boots hanging on the electric wires for years. Now
that is more deliberate. But most of the time it is just a solitary
zapato eating dirt.
I have this picture of people just merrily tossing shoes out the
window. Is that what happens? Or are they hanging their feet out the
window and the wind just sucks the shoe right off?
You have to admit, folks. It's a FASCINATING subject.

frist? a night blog!!! Crazy!!
I've wondered the same, you see hats alot too. And tapes...I seem to still see tapes on the side of the road.
I too have wondered about shoes on the side of the road. Of course, some things may blow out of trucks when people are moving, but you see way to many shoes on the road for it to be just that.
I think the shoe says a lot about the person, and maybe the circumstances surrounding how it got to its place of eventual rotting on the shoulder. For instance, this high heel you saw today on you way HOME on loop 336. This says to me that it was a business woman, or at least someone trying to be a business woman. The fact that you were on you way home to Cut N Shoot lowers the chances that she was already a business woman. So, I think it was a country woman that got dressed up for an interview with a business. She flopped the interview, and it frustration, threw her high heels she had bought from Rags to Riches out the window. If you go back, you will probably see the other one also. This is my educated guess.
Howdy Naytron, up late I see.
I too have seen many tapes. Perhaps people upgrade to CD’s and ditch the tape on the way home.
I’ve almost intentionally thrown a tape out the window, on February 25, 2001. I remember the date cause it was the day after I proposed to Shannon. We were moving her from WA to TX, driving in her car. She confessed that she like Carmen, and was in possession of a Carmen tape. I said we might as well dispose of it now because I won’t allow it in our home once we’re married (I was joking). We were cruising down I-5 in Oregon and I said, “I’ll go ahead and throw it out the window now and take care of it.” I rolled my window down and held Carmen out the window. She was laughing, since she knew I was joking, but I really would’ve liked to have let go of it. We, rather SHE (not WE), she has that tape, but it is in the back of a closet of something somewhere, never to be played again.
Welp, Keith just went to sleep, so that’s means we’re right behind him.
Good night!
Yep, all those tapes you see on the side of the road, they’re all probably Carmen tapes, and they’re not on the side of the road because people upgraded to CDs either.
Keith ripped some big ones and filled up his diaper, so we’re now trying to get him back to sleep after a diaper change.
Good night again. . . WE HOPE!
Scenario two
This is the boots version
Katwoman's same couple, but she is alone, She is whizzing down the road crying in a rage, She reaches down to and grabs his boots, nice boots, maybe Tony llama or something and whizzzz! He and expensive boots are history in one swipe! She feels better and pulls over in time to get her a coke and some ding-dongs at the crockett martin pit stop. She will just eat this guy to death.
Have not done that, but one time I threw a tape out the window at a cut n shoot pit stop, Bobby jumped out of the car to rescue it and I chased him got there before him and stomped it to death. Therefore since it was already stomped he stomped it too. It was pretty funny that day.
I seem to see a pattern here of tapes and cut n shoot.
glad to see the discussion going on...
one time Daddy and I were zipping down the tollroad listening to some tape- I don't remember now.
And I said, pretty casually, "I don't like this tape."
And in a split second- I mean before I could even tell what he was doing - he grabbed the tape out of the tape deck and threw it out the window.
I laughed until I cried.... it was so awesome.
I guess my practical personlity is showwin, but I always picture an illegal worker zipping along in the back of a work truck half asleep and he was in arush so he just threw his shoes in the truck bed right before he lept in behind them which resulted I him not being sure where the shoes are so when the rushed driver hits a bump they popup and flip out and then when the workers get to the work site he fins another replacement shoe on the side of the road where they park...and so the shoe cycle continues
tapes are definitely unappreciated and forgotten items in the backseat where the toddler finds them quite amusing as they pull the tape out and the window is rolled down for fresh air when the ac quit working the day before so the child watches the tape flap in the breeze until boredom results in the superior thrill of watching it fly out the window.
and of course the music is really loud playin in the cd player and the parent never hears anything.
If I see a "high heel" I think of a woman who has jumped out of the car at the light during a bad date, and started walking and one of her shoes falls off and she carries it for awhile and then drops it and in a fit of frustration, takes the other one off and throws it in the woods and keeps on truckin.
Now the guys ugly tenny runners, I think that they had to change shoes to play football or something and they stuck them on the top of the trunk and forgot them and drove off.
Kinda like the purse on top of the car phenomenon..
Have you ever gone to visit Jeremy or Josh Petersons folks.......
Part of the driving directions are something like "take a left at the third set of hanging tennis shoes"
That's Magnolia for you!
I am surprised I got no uprising from the Cut N Shoot women to my subtle insinuation that a woman living in Cut N Shoot could not be a business woman.
in dugan the story on the streets is the shoes thrown up on the powerlines are in remembrance of a death...
god bless cute&shoet,tx
Josharooni,
Whatcha mean by that!?*&%&*
Many a successful woman came from humble beginnings......
CutnShoot has rich soil and lots of furtile ground.
:0)
VKG said, “CutnShoot has rich soil and lots of furtile ground.”
Furtile ground?
Who said anything about getting pregnant?
Must be all those grandchildren affecting her brain.
Thai food sounds good!
Mama PC and Papa JC should be in Vancouver now or on there way there via train at the least. To bad it was a rainy day here. I’m sure it was an awesome ride anyway, all along the way and the bay, but they’d get to see all the mountains if it weren’t a rainy day. Last I checked, the weather was supposed to clear up tomorrow.
slat
Bugga Bugga Bugga!!!!!
I think I'll go throw some shoes over some electrical wires now.
great weather here too: rainy, cooler, greyishclouds, rumbly thunder in the distance, and bursts of lightening.
it all seems to be movin on now
kat, have your neighbors ever had thai food? kids?
