It was a muggy day in July or August 1997 or 1998. We packed up little Mercedes and Madison, me, Steph, and Eva and headed for the murky shores of Galveston. It was a sandy day of fun in the partially overcast sun.
Late in the day, Stephanie and I decided to swim way out. So we did... further and further, past where our feet could touch. We were treading water and laughing and talking, carefree in the way of 19 year olds at the beach.... then suddenly Stephanie cried out "Ouch! What was that!" I was unconcerned until something brushed past my arm and ZAP... the sting. Panicked, we tried to swim away, only to find our gelatinous companions surrounding us on every side. Sting! Sting! Sting! Our arms and the back of our legs were the prey... We were screaming and waving our arms as we tried to swim out... Eva was on the shore, cheerily waving back and taking pictures. I said to Steph, "Here's a picture of Jess and Stephanie, right before they died..."
Well, you may not have guessed, but we made it to shore. Barely. And since that day, Stephanie and I are waders only. We shall leave the swimming to you, the naive.

a tale of woe

I am ok... I am still having contractions, but just choosing peace... except I have to get my shot today. UGH.
How come I don't remember hearing of this story? When Stephanie said it was true, I was thinking it must have happened after we moved in June 2003.
We be heading over to Shannon's family tomorrow morning (her parents, one set of grandparents, and sister). We'll eat, talk, play cards and a game or two, and probably plan our snow boarding trip with her sister and sister's boyfriend (planning to go Jan - March). A 30th B-Day for Shannon may also be planned in stealth (December).
And all will ohh and ahh at the cuteness of the Keith.
I’ve never been on the slopes, and Shannon has only boarded once or twice in 1998 or 1999. The resort mountains are only 1.5 hours away and Shannon’s sister and BF went a lot last year. Shannon’s mom will come along to nanny for Keith while we’re out.
I’ve heard Mike is a good boarder.
Dr Reed's nurse, Heather, is the BOMB... the shot didn't even hurt... (course, I thoroughly pre-iced the site)... she gave me a prescription, AND they checked me out... everything is ok.
back up, folkies
It's alive...
The friend we were going to go see last night had her baby this morning at 8:06 AM. 6 lbs, 15 oz. 20 inches. Paul Gilbert Sweet. We went and saw them in the hospital this afternoon. I'm still working to make up the time.
Keith was 9 lbs, 6 oz. Holding a baby only 2.5 lbs smaller is WAY different. You wouldn't think 2.5 lbs is much, but wow, Paul seemed itty bitty.
And, praise God, rock on, woot woot, for the good report.
Wow Jess!
you got the shot and DRUGS.........
YIPPPEEEE
God is so kewl and so is Heather.
That was great Reeds office seeing you even though she is out...
I like them more and more...
i just made two pecan pies from scratch
and a huge huge deep dish apple pie...
and some poor man's pie
and papa jc is making the traditional cranberry and orange relish - with his addition of pecans... and just the right addition of sugar... he's been working at it for hours now!
i'd like to go snow boarding one day... some day...
jess - i've found that all my patients say the shots I give don't hurt as much as other nurses... my most secret weapon to rid the patient of pain is...
let the alcohol dry completely, or wipe it off the skin just prior to the injection...
voila! very little, if not NO PAIN!
always tell your nurse to dry the site first! you'll be able to tell a diff!
ok - you all enjoy your turkey lurkey and green bean casseroles...
and remember, I'm thankful to God for you!
RECIPE FOR POOR MAN'S PIE
After you make a pie, take all the remaining scraps of pie crust and roll them out gently, place on a cookie sheet, then rub softened butter on each piece...
Then, sprinkle sugar, then cinnamon on each piece, the bake in oven for approximately 20 minutes...at 350 or 400, or whatever...
take it out when the sugar looks like it's melted slightly.. and it's bubbly...
enjoy!!! (of course, wait til it cools before taking a bite!)
