Guys Day

Now, let's say, hypothetically, that Valentines Day is a "woman's"
holiday.
What would a a "man's" holiday be?
Or has it not been invented?
What constitutes a manly holiday?

yeah, but we have mother's day...

what is a woman's superbowl?

beebow said...

Goodmorning jess, terri! I think some men have an extended holiday. It's called HUNTING SEASON. My husband hunts some but I know a few men that hunt all season long. Of course, that could be residual cave man habits showing up in successive generations of men.

jess said...

I don't know about the Superbowl... they don't get presents

beebow said...

We women celebrate everything! Getting married, having babies, birthdays, anniversaries.....you name it. If it wasn't for women those things would just be another happening in everyday life.

Anonymous said...

I'm with Terri. Superbowl Sunday IS a man's holiday. It is the day that the men can sit on the couch, eat whatever junk food they want, and they don't have to listen to anyone else for several hours at one time.

That's the closest you come to a man's holiday.

jess said...

Kim
Kelly's talking to you downstairs

Who said that we women get presents on Valentine's Day? I get a night out to eat, but that benefits us both. And this year I probably don't get anything because Kerry Kirkwood will be at church. A way better place for us to be also.

jess said...

Beebow- thank you for the picture/poem
It is SO beautiful

Anonymous said...

Thanks Jess

jess said...

well, I get presents. I dadgum better get presents. A whole holiday about chocolate

jess said...

but we will discuss valentines day more fully tomorrow

Anonymous said...

Amen Terri!

jess said...

Guys-
do you consider the Superbowl a holiday?

whenever you show up....

beebow said...

Jess, your welcome. I'm glad you like it.
I had better get presents too. And I will. After 32 years, Don knows that! He says that I can get more life out of an event, such as birthdays, anniversaries and the like, than anyone else he knows. There have been years where I have worn them out.

Anonymous said...

Terri,

I like your strawberry shortcake. She was always one of my favorite characters as a kid. Her and Holly Hobbie.

jess said...

we usually celebrate the next day.... ministry has fallen on old V day for years

jess said...

the caveman/fedex commercial was awesome
but I like the Bud Light commercials best... the magic fridge ... the bear one

jess said...

I love sports food

jess said...

NO no
what I would like for Valentines Day is TOMORROW'S topic

jess said...

hey hey it's a guy!

beebow said...

Bye everyone! I will spend the next 5 days in Montana with nothing to do except shop, eat, nap and shop some more. It's a tough job but someone has to do it. I will check in on you from there. I love you.

jess said...

it's daniel on a napoleon dynamite body

Anonymous said...

Terri,

I like your Strawberry Shortcake. She was one of my favorite characters when I was a kid. But Holly Hobbie is the one I remember best. I even had a Holly Hobbie lunch kit once. The only metal lunch kit I remember having.

jess said...

blah blahdiblah
the comments are posting goofy

jess said...

Have fun, Beebow!

I think an unwed man does not have quite the same experience on Superbowl Sunday as a married man. But the same goes for a woman on Valentine's Day.

The unwed man does not have the "dutiful" wife to provide the refreshments and does not have the wild kids that he is trying to escape.

jess said...

our first V Day (you can't really abbreviate this one comfortably)
I was 15 maybe? and Richy forgot and I was so sad. And then Richy and my dad went in to Hastings to get a movie and Richy came out with a giant heart balloon... I was so happy

I found out later my dad bought it and gave it to him to give to me....

oh well, he has improved with time

jess said...

I watched the first half of the Superbowl by myself

because I love the commercials
and I like to know what everyone's talking about if the game is crazy

jess said...

well, there you have it, men.

Take it away

Anonymous said...

Before I have to go I wanted to tell you about a "manly" Valentine's Day card.

He wife gave him a card that read "Silence for one week." She promised not to nag, push, prod, or in any other way share her opinion of his life habits for one full week.

She said that within that week, he changed his life habits on his own.

You know how it is, as long as someone is telling you to stop, you keep doing it; but as soon as you are left alone, you can think about it and realize that you need to stop and you stop for yourself.

jess said...

well, we were giving the guys a chance.
But NADA

jess said...

is that just a let's get guys day going comment, or are you actually going to puke?

Beth said...

i think that men kind of use up their gift-giving holiday priveleges by deciding when to to spend hundreds of dollars on electronics or tools randomly throughout the year

we have to have all these holidays so we have more excuses for money to be spent on us

but if we invented one, it would have to be national "give a man a gift card" day

that's also a pretty good idea for valentine's day.

BethC said...

all we r sayin is "give guysday a chance"

man's holiday-remote control day

Beth said...

isn't that every day though?

jess said...

true dat, bethy

Yo, yo, Superbowl Sunday ain’t no holiday for men:

1)Do you see it on the calendar? Well, most men may write it in, but your calendar don’t be coming out the box with “Superbowl Sunday” on it, like “Good Friday” or anything!

2)Does the Pres. and other dignitaries have some big presentation? Like MLK Day or Memorial Day or even Thanksgiving?

To call it a holiday for men, it’s gotta get on the calendar and we want some recognition from the higher-ups!

BethC said...

we could call men's holiday "servant" day
servant leader Day with a parade & whatnot

Beth said...

BETH
that is very very kind

Josh said...

And further, we all know V Day is 99% to the benefit of females! 100% of attached females EXPECT to get flowers or chocolate or jewelry, or maybe all three. Maybe. . . maybe 1 – 2% of men expect to get something further than a card or a shared dinner (which the man probably felt his female expected him to plan), and a kiss. Listen to the commercials, “Men, don’t you want your woman to know you love her, buy a diamond necklace for V Day.” You don’t hear advertising directly to females for V Day cause they are the receivers.

Enough said!

Beth said...

SO JOSH
HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT VALENTINE'S DAY? DON'T BE SHY, SHARE YOUR HEART.
8)

Josh said...

(Note: A few on here may not know me well enough. I like V Day, and enjoy making Shannon feel special very much, I’m just rebutting the women on here and most of what I said is with joking (although true what I said is true).)

So BRING IT ON!

Anonymous said...

Josh,

You are WRONG. I am an attached woman and I do not expect anything more than a Happy Valentine's Day on V Day. A dinner is nice, but it is usually decided where will go while we are in the car driving and we BOTH discuss it.

Therefore, it can't be more than 99.9% women that expect something. And I would tend to think that the married men expect to get their gift later that night when the kids are gone to bed. Men do not go unnoticed.

Beth said...

i think i have to be sappy a sec

val day--like any other day will always be messed up by the media and advertisers, but that's not what matters.

so val day is not women's holiday

it's a celebration ( or should be ) of a beautiful relationship blessed by God....both directions

Beth said...

kudos m 3
good point

Beth said...

but hey,
jess said we're not discussing valentine's day today

we're supposed to be discussing man's day

Anonymous said...

I do think though that my husband would be quite hurt if I did not give him a Valentine's card. He may throw it away in a week or so, but to know that I remembered and thought about him and took the time to express my love on the "Love Day" (even though I express it year-round)will make him happier.

And all us women know that a happy husband is a good thing.

Anonymous said...

Maybe the 4th of July would be closer to a man's holiday.

They get the day off work. They can spend all day outside showing off their Bar-B-Queing skills. Then that night they can scare the whole neighboorhood with their Black Cat firecrackers and blow up things with their quarter sticks of dynamite.

Anonymous said...

Not to mention the juvenilles that shoot bottle rockets at eachother.

Anonymous said...

the fourth of July is all about playing with fire and who knows how to play with fire better than the guys?

Beth said...

i'm inclined to agree.
rocket day may be the one

Anonymous said...

Happy Clam,

Thank you for all your support.

Anonymous said...

Guys,

What is your favorite firework.

I know my husband liked the half sticks of dynamite in Belize ( I believe)

Josh said...

Ok then, 99.9% of woman. I too would be a little hurt if Shannon made no mention of the day. Cards or gifts are really optional, though usually gotten, because it isn’t about that. I do like V Day a lot, but I’ll save that for tomorrow. Yes, most married men do expect to get some lovin’ in the evening, although I’ve learned to hope and not expect because it isn’t about that either.

Anonymous said...

Josh,

You have become very mature in your old age.

jess said...

Hey- was that a Sappy Clam?

Beth said...

the happiest clams are also the sappiest clams because they know the important stuff
8)

Beth said...

this clam's getting a little nervous with all that talk

beebow said...

Hello all, even nervous clams. I am sitting in the airport by my lonesome waiting for my flight. I am so crazy! I will see my honey in 5 days and still I had a hard time saying goodbye when he dropped me off.
Soooo. How's guys day going?

jess said...

pretty slow on the male side...

jess said...

i agree with JP... V Day is promoted to women

Mama PC said...

well, this has been an interesting day...

JD HANG IN THERE!
Beebow I MITHH YOU ALREADY
Guys - where are you?

Topic of day - Man's Holiday??? Hmmm.... every day is man's holiday...... especially their birthday

My "plan" is to make every day for the rest of my life feel like a holiday for my husband..... but, in all reality, it doesn't work like that...... but...... I wish it were so...

I have a gem of a guy for a hubby.....

I wish you all knew him better....

He would be your hero!!!

Josh said...

Papa JC is the wind beneath our wings.

BethC said...

everyday is servant- leader Day

jd, why inducing?
I know "due date" but is there any reason docs don't let you go past?

Mama PC said...

beth -

the docs these days (and for the past 25 years) are inducing so that the baby doesn't face the risk of passing then aspirating the meconium....

how are you today?

Mama PC said...

my favorite V - days.....

one year 13 yrs ago Papa Jc drove home sneakily and didn't think I saw him when he passed our little house...... he parked at the end of our street, then snuck back and put red socks all over my car.....and a card that told me how much he loved me......with red socks on the pages with the words and rhymes something to do with socks.......

I'll never forget his homemade card...... and creativity.......

and love.......

2nd most favorite was when we got snowed on in Lubbock Texas......and he gave me a sweet card, some Marc Jacobs perfume and we ate out at IHOP 3 times in 3 days!

gotta go!

BethC said...

i'm fine thanx
wow such beautiful weather
I got lots of yardwork done today

mamapc, what about waiting 1-2 wks (momstobe don't prefer), like can some gestations be longer than others?
Vday
papapc does seem like a terrific guy....
everyday is special to me with my gem of a hubby....
there are many great examples of devoted servant-leaders in MCF

Mama PC said...

me (as a regular person) think we should just wait until we go into labor on our own if possible - but, as an RN, I have to go with the docs..... they are covering themselves by inducing early because there IS a risk of any baby 14 days past due date COULD swallow, then aspirate into their lungs, the meconium... that could cause poisoning of the baby..... so, with medicine like it is today, this seems to be acceptable to do..... for the safety of the baby.....

Lindsey ended up being 20 days over due and my doc was having a FIT and induced my labor (ineffectively) twice on day 14 and day 17)..... when he sent me home from hospital on day 17.....and told me to come back on day 19! i said "NO"... I won't come back until I go into labor on my own..... so, then on Dec (day 20) my body finally said it was time for Lindsey to be born...

so...... every mom has to make that decision with their doctor or midwife.....weighing all the evidence/facts......

my girls say they're not going to have their babies in a hospital......but in a birthing center because they HATE needles!! and don't want things done unnaturally...... I'd like to spend some time in childbirth prep classes as an RN so that I'll have more knowledge from that side of things......

Your husband seems like a servant leader too..... We are blessed!

There are a lot of servant leaders at CTK church.... a whole CROP of them!!!!!!

Mama PC said...

terri - i think the tannin in tea is a natural analgesic...... has anyone else heard of this....or am i just being creative...

beth - i just walked outside for approximately 2 miles with Hannah dragging me all the way..... I much prefer to walk WITH someone..... it makes the time pass more quickly. I'm such a people-person..... plus, if I fall down and can't get up because of a heart problem...someone will be there to call 911!!!!!

Mama PC said...

hey, i feel so much better today since I'm getting off all sugary processed foods and focusing on veggies and whole foods! Plus, I'm trying to drink a lot of H2O...

I got off work at TWO OCLOCK IN THE AFTERNOON!!! I didn't know there was a such thing as an afternoon.......with sun up when I leave work......so it was a blessing and I felt such joy to just plain LEAVE work while the sun was still up!!!

I LIKE MY NEW JOB!!!! I AM BLESSED!!!

Mama PC said...

Mama PC said...

here's what I threw together for supper.......

very creative I was and I think from a German perspective I created this meal.....

a chuck roast, pan braised in a spot of oil.....in large roaster...
covered with sliced potatoes, salt/pepper and onions, then covered with cabbage with salt and vinegar spritzed on top...

who wouldda thunk i'd create such a strange combo...... but i think it will be ...

different...???

it never gets boring around here......

would YOU eat this meal???

Mama PC said...

Hannah has told me.....Gwamma... we'd like to send something to her Mom's address (istn't that who is giving the shower?) if that would be okay......

Hello all you wonderful people. I am blogging from the salt lake airport. I miss you guys.
Yes, katwoman, this is the time to pray. I am going to talk to Don's mom about the Lord. She isn't saved and I just believe that this is the time.

Mama PC said...

Beebow - yes we will all be praying for you as you share the Love of the Lord with Don's mom. May God's grace flow from your mouth like springs of living water to a dry and thirsty ground.

May she be filled and healed in her inner being in the Name of Jesus.

May she see and feel the love of God as those around her show her agape love.

Mama PC said...

Beebow - how much longer til your next flight?

How's it going?

beebow said...

Thank you mama pc. I receive it! I believe this is her time. I know I am compelled to press her because she is ill and unless God heals her she is going to die from this disease. I believe she will be receptive to what God gives me to say.

beebow said...

I catch my next flight at 9:20 which is 10:20 your time. It's been great so far.

beebow said...

I sat next to a man from corpus and got to share the Lord with him the whole trip. I gave him my bible reading plan and a book I was reading called "The Passion of the Christ". It is fifty reasons why Christ died. Very good book.

Good Morning Blogging Friends!

And the works of your hands will prosper, and the Lord will defeat your enemies for your sake.
And all the peoples of the earth will know that you are called by the name of the Lord.
