You will all be delighted to know that, after weeks and months of turning you all down from holding Toby, I let a complete stranger hold him at the grocery store.
This is how it went down. We tank up prior to leaving the house. Toby, full, happy and medicated, sleeps all the way to HEB. Sleeps on the way in... bumpy bumpy bumpy
Sleeps while we ate a delicious lunch (HEB has value meals for like 2 bucks what the heck) and woke up as soon as we entered the grocery aisles....
Smiled through the store, charmed people etc. Stopped smiling at the produce round-up. I recognized the signs and banked for the checkout line... I got a fairly decent line behind 2 people with carts full of chickens and goats and such (not really, but it does feel like a Mexican market in line sometimes)
And the meltdown began. Chat chat chat people with the clerk... read a mag, if you'd like. Fumble around... where is that wallet?? Chat, clerk and sacker. Sack at your leisure...
Progressing rapidly past the bronze whine right into the silver angry tears. Finally make it through, chat chat over the screams...
And we're to the door when I realize I did not redeem my Coinstar voucher.... I check the receipt as Toby takes the gold. Yep, redeemable only today.
If I were a wealthy woman, I'd let my $45 of coins go... just let it go. But, as I am of the goat and chicken farm category, I take R2 and Toby in their cute little matching shirts back INTO the store. R2, fascinated by his Buddy Bucks, walks 15 feet behind me. Abduct me! his posture cries out.
Yada yada
Get my money and take off for the car. I am almost at my destination and the frantic screams are attracting attention. Then, a small pickup truck full of pierced and dyed people stops directly in my way. I say excuse me, nicely, but they don't listen. So I start to try to drive the cart through. FInally they notice me and step reluctantly to the side.
And this is where it happens. I am frantically throwing my groceries in the trunk as the platinum air raid siren wails over the city. A woman asks me in Spanish a question, some question and holds out her arms. And I, who don't give him to his own grandmothers at church, hand him over gratefully. I throw 2 cases of water on top of the other bags, throw the empty carseat in the back, throw R2... no, wait... he climbed in by himself. And I take the now quiet Toby, sucking happily on his fist, and thank the lady in multiple languages.
I'm still not going to let you hold him. I miss him too much. Unless I see you at the store.

substitute baby pic until I figure out how to upload my new pics....
John is in rehab hosp in beaumont. i will be back there every week until he is stronger.
His first day of rehab was yesterday so I guess he has a lot of work to do. Val is doin great and she is staying strong. Isaac is perfect and we will all get through this victoriously. John's alive and it's a miracle.
Jess,
I have had MANY an experience like that, but the worst was Abigail.
I was in Target trying to buy last minute preparations for our trip to Mexico. She did not like being strapped in the cart while I was looking at warm pajamas to take with us to Mexico. We were leaving the next day so I had to buy them that night. I thought I was all prepared, but Steve said I needed some extra pairs in case they wet them in the night. Anyways, as she is screaming and Chris and Gabriela are playing in the aisles, a lady comes over and tells me that she is going to call 911 and get the police there if I did not do something with my child. She was disturbing the peace. My nerves were already frayed with the tantrum and my other two not standing still and waiting for me to get what I needed. I about started crying right there. I took Abigail out of her seat and held her so that she would stop crying. (That was exactly what she wanted, but I did not want to give in to her tantrum) Tried pushing the basket and finish shopping. (Abigail was 21 mo old and not the lightest child). Gabriela kept asking what was wrong. I told her that the lady wanted to call the police. She sobered up and kept quiet until we got out of the store.
It was HORRIBLE.

'Wow -- that's great. We'd be proud to have you here. What's your name?'
Applicant:
'Yim Yohnson.'
wow! jess! i could just see your predicament - laughed at your story-telling - you are so funny! sorry it was difficult..... next time take a bottle of homemade milk, just in case! ha!
hi beth! hi harv!
mommy3 - that sounds HORRIBLE! i kept my kids quiet in the stores by pinching and threatening them or giving them food...... i know that sounds terrible....... but, a mom's gotta do what a mom's gotta do.... it seemed they usually entertained themselves or each other... when j was a baby, hannah was 3 and linds was 4.....so, most of times to the grocery story I left them with John (or sent him to the store)..... solved a lot of problems.......
stores - during stressful years of my life - when i was at my lowest place physically (anemic for years) I would get to the store by myself (alone) shop for an hour...then, when I'd get to the checkout - I'd be in tears! Several times I would use a pay phone and call John and ask him to come check us out..... like at a Walmart, where you have to put everything yourself onto the belt for the cashier, then carry it to the car and load it.... now, looking back, I can't believe I did this, but, I was just too overwhelmed and weak and he was nice enough not to judge me or ridicule me for balking after one hour of Wallyworld.....
now - i wouldn't do this. i must be feeling better. I've solved the problem of price shock by simply allowing John to do most of the grocery shopping. (I tend to feel guilty when i get to the end of the line and they lady sincerely and non-blinkingly says $198.76) I just can't believe groceries cost SO much!!! and I'm tempted to buy too much of things and throw little extras in..... so, to solve the problem of feeling like I'm spending too much on groceries, etc....... I just don't do it much anymore!
Hey, now, the girls will come home with a bag of groceries!!! I guess they're tired of having nothing they like in the house... but, it solves some of the money problem......
okay...... i babble too much......
gotta get busy on my day off......
i felt a little drugged when i woke up - and then, when i tried to brush my teeth - NO WATER!!!
OOPS
we need a plumber
last week we needed a dentist...
the weeks before we needed doctors and car mechanics/paint/body
right now i have water on in the house - but lindsey's bathtub faucet is continually flowing cold water in a moderately large trickle.....
john's at dentist now, then will swing by home depot..... to try to find new faucets....... pray that he gets the right ones.....
oh my.....
there's an ECHO in here...
(there's an ECHO in here......)
I don't have very many stories... but I got some great Studio blunders! Like that time when I thought I lost all our .aif data on the audio files, and assumed the external hard drive had crashed, when actually it had just froze up because I had plugged in the IDE 400 cable at the same time as the Firewire 800 cable. All I had to do is reboot the main CPU, and disconnect the Xhard drive, re-starting the drive once the Mac OS 4.5 was up an running. Silly me. I laugh out loud every time I think of that story. Whew...
THANKFULLY John's boss is not docking his vacation pay while he goes to dentist! That's a miracle! (John does put in at least one hour daily of overtime without getting paid......so I'm glad they're not being stingy with him...) this is a blessing!
This job he's been on the past 4 years has been an answer to prayer!
Richy,
I laugh when I read that story too. It is so full of computer jargon that reading it makes me feel that I am reading some computer manual.
richy - you're too techo gizmic for me......
john has a blunder or two.....
once, when he was trying to work on one of our cars in 1981.....when we were newlyweds...and had parked HIS old car out in the parking lot of the apartment complex..... he came in to get the key to his older car where he had his big tool box in the trunk....... he took the keys out to the parking lot.....and the car was no-where to be found!!! after checking with the apt manager, they told us that the car had been towed 2 months prior! and we had not even noticed it missing!!! so, john paid $100 to get it out of the pound, not because of the value of the car.....but because of the value of the tools!!! we had been so busy that we didn't even notice one of our CARS had been towed! how strange! that's just one of the types of papa jc's blunders over the years......
ok...... i mUST get off here.....and other internet activities i've been dawdling with...... and get something ACTIVELY accomplished
ah-sta-luego
benevidieos
er vwah!
tag!
LOL richy... you're the bomb
WE ARE GETTING DSL! PRAISE THE LORD AND BLESS HIS HOLY NAME! HE HAS MADE THE SBC GUYS RUN SOME CABLE OR SOMETHING!
VERY EXCITING!
VERY VERY
that was me, harvy.... she was having trouble logging in this morning.
Wonder if everybody else has been, too...
that was one of the best and most entertaining narratives i have ever read!
i loved it.
8)
p.s.
you should really let his grandmothers hold him--i mean just for a minute; you can stay right there and hold his hand......come on...
servant's at school--hopefully studying...8)
Servant,
Thanks for the interpretation to Richy's post. HaHaHa.
Thanks Servant
My shoulder is doing much better. Actually, I usually forget that I even hurt it until a move in a certain way and it reminds me. It is definately doing pretty good though. Thanks for the prayers
i never lost a child at walmart......
neither did i put them on leashes (have you seen people do that???)
but one night, after church i got to our van, and the girls were outside playing with their friends.....but, j was no where to be found!!! that was a very panicy feeling that came upon me when i couldn't find my 2 year old son.....
we unlocked the building, looked all through the sanctuary, then went from room to room... finally.....in the recesses of the dark nursery, i spied light coming from under a bathroom door.... and there he was ..... singing.......on the pot.......
then, a couple of years later... as i was at my part-time job, running food service for the private school where the kids attended..... john came through my line while i was collecting lunch tickets......at the same time the Kindergarten class came through... the teacher says to me "so, is Jeremiah sick today?".....and i looked at john - WHO WAS SUPPOSED TO BRING J TO SCHOOL WHEN HE CAME IN AT 9!!! and it was 11 a.m. at this time!!! and J was only FIVE YEARS OLD...and had been left at home ALONE!!!!!!!!
and i spoke firmly to him! Get in the car and go home and find MY SON!!! Meanwhile, i found someone else to run the kitchen, borrowed a car, cried and prayed and worried the whole 10 minute drive home......and found John in the living room with Jeremiah - who had been sitting in front of the television.......eating dry cereal and enjoying himself......
he didn't know how to use the phone..... thankfully he didn't go out of the house......
I asked him how he felt or what he thought at that time.....
He said he was looking out the window when he heard dad go out the front door that morning.....and waved to him.....but John didn't see him..... We taught him then how to use the phone and I threatened John NEVER to do that again! How horrible for a parent to just go off and leave and forget a child!!!
Still can't believe it..... but, i suppose dad's can't be expected to feel and act like a mama.....
i can just imagine little austin, hiding under the clothes racks.....with that mischievous look in his eyes..... i knew him a bit while he was at Lifestyle one year i taught music classes at the elementary.
some boys are just feisty from the time they exit the womb.....
sounds good servant....... i'm thinking you are a very talented man.....
Mama PC,
I used the leashes. As long as your child walks, they work. I could never use one with Gabriela because she would just sit down on her bottom and I would end up dragging her behind me. Not a good idea.
going back in time again - when J was about 3 years old, he was MISSING from our house!!! i looked all over the house - then in the front, side and back yards......neighbors yards.....garage........ then, it dawned on me....... the day before I had allowed Jeremiah to ride a BIG WHEEL home from his aunt's house while i followed in the van slowly, with the girls riding their bikes....... she only lived about 6 blocks..... but, it was across a main through street at one point!!! PANIC!!!
I got on the phone to my sis-in-law Susie and asked her to go outside to see if J was headed her way on a BIG WHEEL..... and sure enough - he was......... he was such an independent and quiet little fellow....... in his own world......confident........
servant - if you feel like it's the right design - GO FOR IT! i like the hebrew lettering.....and Judah's meaning - and the colors and Hannah approved the little stick dancing people........ I liked them a lot too.....
GO FOR IT!
are you at school?
going back to my JOHN LEFT J AT HOME ONE MORNING story... reviewing the facts..... i have a correction to make! J was only FOUR! He was in 4-yr-old preschool at that time!!! That makes the story even worse! And worse still, John had been bringing him to school each morning when he came to work at the church for WEEKS!!!
Men for ya...
i think geniouses are invented after riding several years on a big wheel...... the circular rotation of that large wheel in front of the child allows thought processes to occur that stimulate the formation of intelligence quotient material called gray matter and links the right and left sides of the brain in ways that many wonderful creations can occur in said child's future!
speaking of lost children - once I was at a very popular Mex food restaurant - Sunday lunch - lots of church friends - talking very loudly..... there was the typical Mex food restaurant music
imagine
it

well......anyway.....
i was talking and laughing - and then somewhere in my mama's ears i heard a faint......
moooooommmmmmmmm!!!!!!
imagine it as the faint cry the Dr Seuss character Horton heard from the Who.......
no one could have heard that cry I heard.......through all that noise....... seriously...... i don't know how I heard it.....
it was Hannah, 3 years old and locked in a bathroom all the way on the other side of the restaurant..... imagine if you were at Rancho Grande at the furtherest table from the kitchen......and the bathrooms were on the other side of the kitchen....... I WAS HEARING HER THROUGH THE CEILING TILES, I KNOW!
She WAS LITTLE AND LOCKED IN THE BATHROOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!ALL BY HERSELF!!!!!!!!! She must've left the table by herself (we were with a big crowd)...
It's a miracle that all my kids grew up still in our home.....
proud of you servant - go study and do good.....
bye everyone ....
oh, i have one more story, jennifer...... these are the worst "lost child" stories i have.....
this story will finish it...
hannah rode a bike a lot when she was 6-7 yrs old..... one afternoon after school, i noticed that i hadn't seen hannah in a while...so i went outside and her bike was gone...... well, bike riding for us meant you stay ONLY in the designated area...... and at that time we lived in a trailer park.....with one little street down the middle - anyway, i walked with Linds and J looking for h's bike and her......and down by the mailbox - there was her bike......but NO HANNAH! it was horrible!!!!!!!! it was just parked there, with kickstand down......right by a road......as if she had been picked up! she was such a beautiful child.....long straight blonde hair to her hips......big eyes! i just knew she had been kidnapped!!!
i ran back to the trailer and called John from work and told him she was missing......and asked him to come home quick.....then, i ran out again to look for her.....leaving linds and j at the trailer to be there in case she showed back up (lin was 9).....and to watch for john to show up.....
i ran back to the mailbox row.....bike still there......and i crossed that street to go look in the field..... thinking she may have gone over there........and, sure enough..... there she was about 1/2 block into the field, with our dog...... she said "Lovey wanted to follow these other dogs so I came with her..." she had been walking the dog on a leash while riding her bike.....
I was never so horrified!!!!!
oh, no... i just remembered the time J was 23 months old and we were serving Hannah's birthday meal - and we had just sat down to pray and the door bell rang. As i walked to the door, i noticed that the front door was cracked open......which gave me a horrible feeling! Yes, there at the door, was a man, holding my baby son.....asking if he was mine.
HORRIBLE!
He said that he had toddled out into the street!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I almost DIED! of horror and embarrassment........
and another time at that little house where J toddled out, I felt impressed to go out and check on the girls who were riding their little big wheels on the front driveway..... extremely impressed to go check on them.......
and there - was hannah, riding cheerily around in circles.....with her long blonde hair flowing.....and out on the street parked in a strange place right beside our driveway were two strange men......staring! at my baby girl!!! she was about 4 yrs old..... and it was during those years where they were telling parents of blonde haired, blue eye girls to watch out because of kidnappers......cultic practices, etc. I KNEW that God had urged me out there to get my baby girl out of danger...
YES GOD IS WATCHING OVER OUR CHILDREN......
LORD, CONTINUE TO WORK IN THE LIVES OF YOUR OWN......
ha! J has given you guys a run for your money!
the only time my parents lost me I was sleeping in a recliner in the den, I had turned it around so I could see out the window...
I woke up to all the neighbors calling my name
JENNIFER, I wouldda been angry with that 19 year old babysitter too..... thankfully God was watching out after your baby!
Once a 10 year old girl went to pick up J (6-9 months old) from the nursery at church for me! I hadn't asked her to...... she just took it upon herself, and her mama usually worked in the nursery, so it wasn't unusual for her to do this... anyway... i was in a room close to the nursery.....didn't know she was bringing him to me...... but my eyes happened to see my baby Jeremiah flying through the air at about knees height and then he fell onto the floor, headfirst!!!!!!! The noise was very loud as his head hit the floor! I ran out there and was so angry at that girl for taking my baby out of the nursery, then tripping and letting him fall! He was totally passed out! I picked him up and started praying.....and told whoever was around to GO GET JOHN NOW! J's eyes rolled back in his head...... it was horrible! Then, finally, with prayer and a few minutes, he woke up......he was breathing the whole time.....
I was so mad at that girl...... that was about the time that rules started being put into effect that kept anyone but parents pickup up children from nursery.
Oh MAN! I would just be so mad and sick!
People (when we toured) used to just snatch R2 up out of his playpen and carry him around... I ended up putting a Please Do Not Touch the Baby sign on the playpen
at around the same time J was lost in that bathroom when he was 2 or 3...... he and the sisters decided in that same nursery.....to get up on the tables that were stacked up where the janitor had stacked 3 high so he could vacuum and steam clean the carpets. Well, picture 3 stacked lunchroom sized tables..... makes a great place to pretend to sleep for 3 small children and their two small cousins...
Lindsey and Brittany crawled on the bottom level and laid there..
while Hannah and Bethany crawled up onto level number two.....leaving Jeremiah to climb up onto the top!!!!!!! he laid there a moment......then the whole group of tables fell down.......somehow the girls got out without harm..... but J ended up with a broken collarbone!
I was up on the platform that early sunday morning rehearsing......when one of the cousins came to tell me of the problem! we brought j to the sanctuary and assessed him......the i was so mad at the devil and allowed him to just lay on the chairs with his little scared self (next to a friend lady who mothered him) and then to the doctor after the service was over!
i had some issues back then where john was expecting me to be singing WITH him for praise/worship.......but neither he, nor the church leaders would afford a babysitter for me...... so, the kids and their cousins usually safetly entertained themselves in the nursery...... little did i know that the janitor man stacked up those tables!
since we married - i always felt like I HAD to be a part of the praise and worship, even though it was really too much for me personally...... and Johne expected me to participate completely and faithfully....... and i didn't have ANY BOUNDARIES.....for myself...... just did what was expected of me...
then, i grew to resent the fact that everyone was running my life......and i had been a pleaser of men......so, it was hard for me to come to a place where i just STOPPED to re evaluate...and to find out WHO God wanted me to be and what He wants me to be or do.....
John required in his nice way that i sing a whole Christmas contata when Lindsey was just 2 weeks OLD! solos and all!
Looking back, i could've said "no, John, I won't be able to participate this time around... I've just given birth via c-section....." but, NO, I was stupid and gullible and a pleaser.....so, I did things that were unwise......
Now, I'm learning to pace myself and try to listen to find out what God wants of me..... and not be such a people pleaser......
in 1981, while I was pregnant with Lindsey, our church ended up in a revival where, since John was the music minister, he (we) were required to be at the services EVERY NIGHT FOR 5 months!!!(except Saturday nights) I blindly just went (and worked a 40 hour job) and participated in the music...
falling asleep! and wondering WHY we had to go to church every single night with the fact that if I stayed home one night, I would feel guilty..... and wanting so much to fix up my nursery for my new baby...... but I couldn't.....and by the time Saturdays got here, I was exhausted......and had to do laundry and grocery and housework...... i do hope that if we ever get into a place where there is revival again and every night church services that someone thinks ahead and plans that enough musicians are prepared to share the load......
that's one reason papa jc is no longer working as music minister in large traditional church - there was no boundaries in his position...... if anyone needed him, he felt he had to be there..... weddings, services, prayer meetings, etc. it was his "job" as well as ministry...
thankfully, he now has a 40 hour job in the work-a-day world......and has boundaries on the rest of his time.......and can give as he has time/direction/energy and when his wife tells him to!
and papa jc is trying harder than ever not to be a people-pleaser himself, but a God Pleaser...
me too...
and I forgive all the folks who set out expectations for me and my man and forgive myself for doing things just because I was supposed to.....and am now picking up the pieces of who i crumbled down to..... and allowing God to use my broken self.....as He sees fit.....
and if God asks me poihsonally to be involved in worship/music every night of the week, i know he will grace me to do so..... but, i had to get to the place where i could hear HIS voice and listen to HIS wisdom and guidance.....
wise mamapc quote for the day
*** don't do things just because someone else expects it of you, even if it's a good thing to do.... find God's direction and follow His leading..... don't strive for perfectionism and do not let guilt motivate your life... if you let those things reign, you will wear out and mar your witness..... but, if you listen carefully to His leading and seek only to please HIM, he will make your path straight and His glory will be made known to the Nations...***
This blog is good for us as a community.... yes, i talk all day at work....... about the patients and their tests/procedures/
surgeries/concerns/needs....... but, as far as belonging to a home group and having friends to share with... i don't communicate a lot -
i want to say thank you jess D. Clark for having this HOME group of sorts..... it is meeting a need in my life...... helps me to be connected with more of the body of Christ than i'm able to usually.
It's my connection into COMMUNITY life...
thanks Jess for allowing me space on YOUR space..... to talk.....
we all need a place like this where we can be ourselves.......
well, i've talked enough today.....
I'm glad, too... I enjoy everybody and their commentary
Howdy all,
I’ve been very busy today, hence my totally absence. I’ll have to read some of the HORROR stories later. These will get me and Shannon ready for parenting. . . thanks. Kidding, it’s good reminders to always know where your kids are and know who they’re with. I feel bad for every parent that has had “lost kid moments”, I’m sure they are the most horrible 10 minutes / 30 minute experiences.
Side note: Matt T. (Big Daddy) is going to be a regular on the Heavenly fathers blog! His first post will be up tomorrow morning, then every Wednesday following. I’ll be posting on Friday, maybe stick with every Friday. You all feel free to post comments, even if you’re not a dad.
Latter Tatters
You gotta be careful passing your babies around at church. If not cause you'll miss them like Jess said, cause everyone's hands are dirty. Everyone shakes everyone's hands, and we all know the biggest spread on flu like sickness is exactly from that. So 10 people sneeze or cough in their hand on the way to church, then go in and shakes hands with 40 people who shake hands with 20 more each. Then all the infected hands want to pinch your kid’s cheeks, and touch his hands that will then go right into his mouth.
I’ve smelled my hands after church a number of times and they were smelt totally nappy from all the hands I shook. Gotta keep those kids well. People shouldn’t get offended if you want them to use some hand sanitizer first. I know we'll have the Purell in our diaper bag. Just some practical advice.
Jessica,
Jewel has Jolly Jump up..she is finished with it and it has your name on it.

who are you jacov? ctk, tfh, sanctuary?
I think because of perimenopausal symptoms, sometimes I am very forgetful.
So when I told my Steph and Rob that I had money saved up in my 403B, Steph bout busted a seam.
She was just a laughin cuz it is very well known in our fam that sometimes I might say the wrong word for something I mean.
Usually the clan knows what I mean so it is no big deal.
BUT, 403B is the non profit equivalent to 401K....Steph thought that I said 403B meaning 401K.......it was very very funny.
Well, once again I am not loosing it.
This Jumper IS actually called a Jolly Jump up.......
It is NOT a Johnny Jumper..
This is very exciting to me.
NOT BONKERS!
There IS such a thing as a Johnny Jumper, but I do have a Jolly Jump up for little man Tobias!
when linds was a baby, someone gave me a used Johnny Jump-Up..... it was yellow... and John's mom said that she used one when he was a baby.....so, those things have been around since the 1950's!!! at least!!! only problem is.....it could cause bow=legs......
servant, you got it yet?
jacob walsh?
i guess jacov chooses to be mysterious.......
and i have to go to bed now..... 4:30 comes too early.....
good night all...
Maybe its JCOB Walsh or Jacb
four letters eh? it looks as though they're in on the TRIBE things...haha...perhaps it is the PAPA JC himself? Umm..maybe Matt, uhm...actually do we know this Jacov is actually a guy? it could be a girl I suppose...sorry Jacov if you are guy and I insinuated that you might be a girl...its just that you haven't given anything to go on here.
Awesome little story there Richy...it made me laugh. Plugging in the firewire 800 at the same time...jeez...crazy guy. I had no idea you recorded in .aif! But I guess it makes sense...
I loved your stories Mama PC. Little J stories...and the one with little type hannah locked in the bathroom...how cute is that!
